My Idea Of Fun... Last night I had the pleasure of seeing Iggy and The Stooges for the first time and they were amazing. Words can't describe the sight of Iggy Pop live. My ears are still ringing and it's been about 24 hours since the show ended. He played in a newly renovated church, which was beautiful. Why they agreed to let a punk concert be held here is beyond me though, as the majority of chairs close to the stage ended up on the stage. None the less if you ever have the chance to see a show at the United Palace Theater in Manhattan it's a lovely small venue.
As long as we're on puzzlers, why would you go to a show where the group was promoting the release of their new album and complain because they played new songs? While standing outside of the venue after the show there was a group of people who complained because The Stooges played two new songs back to back and then that he closed with a new song, which he didn't (Little Electric Chair - 2003). They felt he should have closed with something like Search And Destroy, which would have been fine, of course, but this wasn't meant to be a greatest hits tour but instead a tour to promote The Weirdness.
The opening act was a band called Sistas In The Pit. They're from San Francisco. It was great to see some female punk rockers up there doing their thing. I wasn't particularly fond of their music but they're worth checking out (http://sistasinthepit.com).
I also had the chance to eat at Floridita before the show. It's a wonderful Cuban restaurant. It doesn't look like much but the food is great and they serve you warm toasted flat Cuban rolls and butter while you wait for your meal.
Great music, food, and a man that's still damn fine all in one evening. What more could a gal ask for?
